Abstract: A computer program can help managers anticipate erosion and sediment delivery attributed to forest roads. The watershed version of the water erosion prediction project (WEPP) predicts road erosion rates within the observed range but overestimates sediment plume lengths. The predicted sources of sediment from an insloping road are mainly from the road ditch and the downslope channel; less sediment comes from the traveledway and the cutslope. Mitigation measures to minimize ditch erosion and channel flow rates will have the greatest effects on reducing sediment delivered from insloped forest roads.
