WEPP Cropland Field Experiments, 1987 and 1988

In the summers of 1987 and 1988, Dr. Elliot was involved in a major USDA Agricultural Research Service soil erodibility study. During the two summers, 35 cropland sites scattered across 26 states were visited with a large field crew and a rotating boom rainfall simulator. The purpose of the study was to determine soil rill and interrill erodibility and hydraulic conductivity, and to relate those values to more easily measured soil properties. A detailed description of the research methods, raw data, and data analysis were summarized in a compendium.

A summary paper of this study is currently in preparation.

The following images further clarify the nature of the fieldwork necessary to collect these data.
