Site/Soil Description:

  • Elevation averages 1850 meters.
  • The topography is fairly steep with slopes averaging 35%.
  • Soils are Ochreptic Fragixeralf – Mission series overlain with approximately 6 cm of vocanic ash (from Mt. Mazama). Textures are silty clay loam.

Stand Description:

  • Forest type is 120+ year old mixed conifer (ponderosa pine, Douglas-fir, western larch, and grand fir).
  • Understory brush consists of grouse huckleberry, vine maple, and twinflower.
  • Understory forbs species consist of prince's pine, vanilla leaf, wild rose, oregon grape, trilium, violet, and trailing blackberry.
