Experimental Forests

Priest River Experimental Forest
In 1911, Priest River Experimental Forest was among the first experimental forests set aside as a forestry research center. The forest served as the headquarters for the Priest River Forest Experiment Station until 1930 when the forest was incorporated into the Northern Rocky Mountain Forest and Range Experiment Station. The forest is currently administered by the Rocky Mountain Research Station from the Moscow, Idaho, Forestry Sciences Laboratory.
Deception Creek Experimental Forest
Deception Creek Experimental Forest, located in the Coeur d' Alene Mountains of northern Idaho, is one of the most productive forests in the Rocky Mountains. The forest is in the heart of the western white pine forest type. When the forest was established in 1933, large old-age western white pine were important for producing lumber products. Therefore, research at Deception Creek Experimental Forest focused on the ecology and silviculture of western white pine and its associated species.
Boise Basin Experimental Forest

The Boise Basin Experimental Forest, with three main units (Bannock, Bear Run, and Headquarters) totaling 8,740 acres that surround Idaho City, ID, was established in 1933 for conducting research on ponderosa pine forests.
