Landscape Characteristics:

Till plains, terraces, fans, and floodplains formed in glacial till. Elevations range from 1000 to 2000 feet. Drainage density is moderate and glacial potholes are common.

Climate:

Mean annual precipitation ranges from 15 to 20 inches, about 20 to 30 percent falling as snow. The soil temperature and moisture regimes are frigid and udic.

Potential Vegetation:

Wheatgrass-bluestem-needlegrass with Northern floodplain forest along major rivers and streams. Some Oak savannah also occurs.
