Landscape Characteristics:

Rolling to steep, dissected foothills and mountain fronts that formed in gneiss and schist. Elevations range from 5000 to 11300 feet. Drainage density is high.

Climate:

Mean annual precipitation ranges from 20 to 50 inches, about 45 percent falling as snow. The soil temperature and moisture regimes are cryic and typic ustic.

Foothills prairie/Douglas-fir forest
