Microbial Processes > Decomposition Processes > Forest Locations: Germany

A wood stake study will be established at three different locations on the "Siberia" wood decay test site located at the Bundesforschung. für Forst- und Holzwirtschaft (BFH) Hamburg, Germany. Each location on this test site is characterized as having a different type of wood decay when stakes are placed in the soil: 1) brown-rot, 2) white rot, and 3) Twenty-five stakes (2.5 x 2.5 x 30 cm) of both loblolly pine and aspen will be installed at each decay-type location - for a total of 150 stakes (25 stakes x 2 species x 3 decay locations x 1 replicate). Five stakes of each species will be removed from each decay-type location every 6 months. Soil moisture, temperature, and CO2/O2 levels will be measured at 10, 20, and 30 cm depths at each location.
