In cooperation with the Weyerhaeuser Corporation, wood stakes were installed on three of the 12 LTSP site treatments established on company land at Fall River in western Washington in March 2000. These treatments are: (1) bole harvest removal (3 - 5" tops) with no compaction, (2) bole harvest removal with soil compaction, and (3) total-tree removal + removal of all wood debris (to 0.25" diameter). Plots were also set up in an uncut 45 year-old Douglas-fir stand adjacent to the treatment plots. Two microplots were established around soil moisture and temperature data collectors in each treatment plot. There are four replicates of each treatment. Twenty-five stakes (2.5 x 2.5 x 30 cm) of loblolly pine and aspen were installed at each microplot - for a total of 1600 stakes (25 stakes x 2 species x 4 treatments x 2 microplots x 4 replicates). Gas sampling tubes were installed at 10, 20, and 30 cm soil depths and samples collected monthly since March 2000. Stake sets were collected in October 2000, March 2001, October 2001, with the next sample collection scheduled for April 2002.
